Centra, Ireland’s leading convenience retailer, and the Camogie Association have officially launched the 2026 Centra Camogie Leagues in Galway, marking both the beginning of Centra’s new title sponsorship and a milestone 50th anniversary of the Camogie Leagues competition.
Camogie, one of the world’s fastest, most skilful and culturally significant sports is an important piece of Ireland’s cultural heritage. Today, it represents elite athleticism, extraordinary speed and a level of skill unmatched in global women’s sport. As the game continues to rise, Centra is proud to stand alongside the Camogie Association to elevate visibility, empower athletes, and inspire the next generation of camogie stars.
Celebrating the Power of Women’s Sport
The launch unfolded outside Monaghan’s Centra on Raven Terrace, framed by a striking mural of Galamh, the original Galway Girl. The vibrant artwork infused the moment with cultural pride, celebrating Galway’s deep camogie heritage and creating a powerful backdrop for a landmark occasion.
A lively crowd gathered for the event, which featured inter‑county athletes, Rachael Merry – Armagh captain, Aisling Maher – Dublin captain, Clodagh Tynan – Laois captain, Meabh Cahalane – Cork captain and Niamh Mallon – Galway All-Ireland winner and a captivating performance from acclaimed Irish musician Allie Sherlock. With her unmistakable voice and global reach, Allie electrified the atmosphere, perfectly capturing the spirit of Centra’s new campaign, Fuel the Moment.
At the heart of the campaign is a commitment to elevating awareness of women’s sport and giving these athletes the stage they deserve, a platform to perform, to inspire, and to showcase their extraordinary talent. Centra wants to support the Camogie association to shine a light on the preparation, drive and passion that power athletes and communities both on and off the pitch.
