Buy a bunch at Centra and SuperValu to give back this Mother’s Day

Centra and SuperValu, part of Musgrave Northern Ireland, are launching a new Mother’s Day campaign in aid of Action Cancer, Thanks a Bunch, Mum! From Monday 9 March until Sunday 15 March, £1 from every purchase of flowers at participating Centra and SuperValu stores will be donated directly to Action Cancer, helping to fund vital, life-saving cancer screening services.

The campaign forms part of Musgrave’s longstanding charity partnership with Action Cancer, which since 2001 has raised over £4 million. Fundraising proceeds are used to help keep Action Cancer’s Big Bus mobile clinic on the road, delivering vital breast screenings, health checks and skin cancer detection services across Northern Ireland.

Among those supported by Action Cancer’s screening service is Julie Ellison, a barrister and mum of three from Hillsborough, whose breast cancer was detected in May 2024. Thanks to Action Cancer, Julie’s cancer was detected at a stage where she could access less invasive treatment, surgery and radiotherapy instead of chemotherapy.

Speaking about the Thanks a Bunch, Mum! campaign, Julie Ellison said:

“I believe Action Cancer saved my life, detecting my breast cancer at an early and treatable stage. It costs Action Cancer £120 to deliver a free breast screening.

“Please purchase some flowers in the run up to Mother’s Day. This campaign could save the life a local woman, a mum just like me in your community.”

Maurice Cusack, Head of Retail Marketing at Musgrave NI, added:

“We’re proud to extend our long standing charity partnership with Action Cancer through this new initiative. Supporting local communities sits at the heart of our business, and campaigns like this allow us to play an active role in making a meaningful difference to the lives of local people.

“We encourage shoppers to think of Centra and SuperValu when purchasing flowers this Mother’s Day. It’s a simple way to show your appreciation while supporting a cause that truly saves lives.”
